Checking out other talkgroups?

Post by kb9mwr » Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:02 am

Seems the main reason folks are buying the low power hotspots is do they can check out other talkgroups.

I am kind of in dark on all that stuff as it seems silly to me to have a HT to talk 20 feet to get on a proprietary network over the internet. Is there a piece of software that can do that and bridge it to analog if you have ambe dongle? (edit; yes its called analog_bridge https://github.com/N4IRS/Analog_Bridge)

For those into QRP VHF/UHF digital here are the flea power options that I know of;
dv4mini
openspot/sharkrf
zumspot/jumbospot(china knock off)
dvmega

What would be nice is a webpage where you can select the s*** you want to listen to, and it broadcasts that out over the net with icecast/etc. Not sure how doable that is yet.

It should be noted that the jumbospot is a cheap low-quality knockoff of the zumspot. Don't expect them to work/last long.

I have now put together a couple of different Hotspots. All based off of the MMDVM. Two Pi0's with jumbospot/chinspot/Cheapspot, whatever you want to call them, and one using a MMDVM Duplex Hat on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ using the Pi-Star Software. So far so good. Used an RTL SDR to set the offset to get it as close as possible. Running between .1, and.3 BER Pretty consistently. Have one setup using a Free FreedomPop Wifi Hotspot, and that works as well.
