Re: Routers VPN and such
TP link ER605 looks interesting and worth playing with. Looks like good ipv6 support is in tp link stuff, I also noticed it uses iptables under the hood, so if I have to telnet/ssh in at least I'll know what I am doing and not have having to deal with some proprietary crap. I have also been meaning ...

Routers VPN and such
In the advent of 5G home internet that does not provide one with their own unique world routeable IPv4 address, what I envision is folks setting up a VPN on a VPS (cloud based server), so that they can still have access to things on their home networks. The only extensive modern VPN stuff that I hav...

Re: Interesting stuff in "Advanced" Amateur Radio
Steve, N8GNJ also has some stuff at superpacket.org https://www.superpacket.org/2021/04/welcome-tag-nw-it-readers.html When I read of his latest there reminded me of why I like reading what he'd write. Simple put; He thinks like me. Amateur Radio exists to provide a portion of spectrum for personal,...

Interesting stuff in "Advanced" Amateur Radio
I used to read Steve's columns in CQ-VHF.
He seems to have recently revived his blog that was long time dormant:

Re: Mesh networking in Brown County
A couple years ago WPS changed out everyones electric and gas meters. They use 900 MHz, so that band is pretty noisy now. Even prior to this I wasn't able to get much further on 900 MHz until I added amplifiers. The lower you go in frequency the larger the fresnel zone, so I am not meeting that, and...

Re: Mesh networking in Brown County
I've tried a number of things over the years. Basically you need to have access to a number of good sites (100 ft) or you really aren't going to get the stuff to go very far. The terrain here vs elsewhere is pretty flat, and we have some pretty good mature trees. Without getting above the trees you ...

LoRA the Ax.25 alternative
This looks like it could be a cheaper goTenna option: https://heltec.org/project/wifi-lora-32/ --Other LoRA stuff: Prior to play with 433 LoraWAN, you had to do it with an inexpensive Arduino shield. http://www.seeedstudio.com/Dragino-LoRa-Shield-support-433M-frequency-p-2672.html https://static1.sq...
